italian wines 2008.

trebicchieri1.JPG this is one of those wine events that you want lie, cheat, or steal your way into. organized as a traveling road show for wines that have been awarded tre bicchieri, or three glasses, by gambero rosso (italy’s top wine magazine). three glasses is gambero rosso’s top rating. top of the top? the tippy top.

the big problem with this event is that all the wines are so damned good, your palate gets a little fatigued. with larger tastings of this sort there are some real clunkers that allow you to take a little bit of a rest. –this is total crap. i know it. i don’t really need to even think about it. i can just kind of space out here for a while, not really paying any attention to the wine. where the hell am i going to spit this out?– not so with this tasting. every wine demands your attention and as a someone who is unaccustomed to such demands, i get a little tired from all of the paying attention. yes, i just complained about the wines being too good. i know, i know, that makes me a total weenie.

a short list of the wines that completely killed it:

vietti, barolo villero riserva 2001.

podere brizio, brunello di montalcino riserva 2001.

fattoria le pupille, saffredi 20o4.

gualdo del re, val di cornia rosso l’ rennero 2005.

inama, soave cl. vign. du lot 2005.

querciabella, camartina 2004. *

brigaldara, amarone della valpolicella case vecie 2003.

cusumano, noa 2005 *

cusumano, sagana 2005 .*

unfortunately, I arrived a little late, so I didn’t get to taste everything. i suppose there’s always next year.
